Thematic Research Clusters
Five interconnected research themes driving our mission
Disease Vectors Research
Investigating the biology, genetics, and ecology of vectors responsible for transmitting tropical diseases including malaria, dengue, and lymphatic filariasis. Our research focuses on understanding insecticide resistance mechanisms, vector population dynamics, and developing novel vector control strategies.
Disease Pathogens Research
Studying the molecular biology, genomics, and evolution of pathogens causing infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa. Our work spans from pathogen discovery and characterization to understanding drug resistance and developing diagnostic tools.
Agricultural Pests Research
Researching pest management strategies to protect crops and ensure food security across the region. This cluster applies molecular and ecological approaches to understand agricultural pest dynamics and develop sustainable control methods.
Snake Bite Research
Addressing the neglected crisis of snakebite envenoming through research into venom composition, antivenom efficacy, and public health interventions. This cluster aims to reduce snakebite mortality and morbidity in rural African communities.
Modelling & Climate Impact Research
Using mathematical modelling, machine learning, and climate science to understand how environmental changes affect disease transmission patterns. This cluster develops predictive tools to inform public health policy and interventions.
