Who We Are
A multidisciplinary research centre dedicated to tropical disease research
The Centrum for Tropical and Infectious Diseases Research (CTIDR) domiciled in Kano is a not-for-profit research centre dedicated to promoting health and wellbeing in Nigeria, sub-Saharan Africa and beyond, through primary and translational scientific research. It engages in research on infectious and tropical diseases, including malaria, neglected infections and their vectors.
Primary Research
Fundamental investigations into the biology, genetics, and ecology of disease vectors and pathogens in tropical environments.
Translational Research
Converting scientific discoveries into practical tools, strategies, and interventions that directly benefit public health.
The centre is at the forefront of research on tropical and infectious diseases genomics, projected to attract grants from the Wellcome Trust, Medical Research Foundation, Medical Research Council, Gates Foundation, and other prestigious funders. The centre works hand in hand with policy and decision makers from the Nigerian Ministry of Health, universities and other research institutes in Nigeria and internationally.
The leadership of the centre include Prof. Sulaiman S. Ibrahim, a molecular entomologist with a track record of research on vector-borne infectious diseases, and Prof. Abdulrazaq G. Habib, a physician with a track record of clinical practice and research on infectious and tropical diseases.
With letters of recommendation from the Nigeria Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) and the Nigeria CDC, the centre complies with the ethical guidelines of all relevant authorities before commencement of research activities requiring clearance. We liaise with the FMoH, NCDC, and other relevant bodies, soliciting for inputs into research design and priority areas, while sharing research findings to inform programmatic decisions.
